Shirley Grove

February 13, 1929 — June 10, 2019

Shirley Ann Grove, 90, of Edinboro and Plum, PA, died Monday, June 10, 2019 at home surrounded by her daughter, Kim, and son-in-law, David. She was born in Johnstown, PA on February 13, 1929, the daughter of the late Harry “Hap” and Sara B. Johns.

Shirley graduated from Richland High School in Johnstown. After her son and daughter were old enough, she worked part-time for J.C. Penney in the catalog department at Miracle Mile Shopping Center. She then worked for PNC Bank in Monroeville for 25 years as a teller and then managed several drive-in branches. After retirement, she worked part time for Joanne's Hallmark for a number of years.

Shirley said that her happiest times were being a mom and raising her kids. Being an only child, she recognized the importance of friendship and valued her many friends. She loved spending time with her friends and kept in touch with them through phone calls and cards. Greeting cards were always very important to her and she especially treasured the over 90 cards that she received in February for her milestone birthday. She will be remembered for her positive spirit, her incredible toughness during injuries and sicknesses, her laugh, and the way that she could light up a room with her “infectious smile”.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Grove, in 1991 and her son, Jeff Grove, in 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Grove and her husband, David Terney, of Edinboro.

The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

A celebration of Shirley's blessed life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Edinboro Branch Library, 413 West Plum St., Edinboro PA 16412; Hillman Cancer Center at www.hillman.upmc.com or the American Heart Association, 3025 French St., Erie PA 16504.
