Neal Williams

April 1, 1938 — April 9, 2021

Neal E. Williams, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 83 on April 9, 2021.  He was born in Waterford, PA to Charles and Irene (Burge) Williams on April 1, 1938.  After his father’s death, he was raised by Leonard and Mary (Burge) Zimmer.

Neal graduated from McKean High School in 1956 as salutatorian and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1962 and returned to McKean where he married Barb DelPorto and raised his family. Neal worked for Penn Union (Teladyne) in Edinboro, PA in a variety of positions, and retired as Regional Sales Manager after 37 years.  He enjoyed working on the farm, traveling in his fifth-wheel, camping with friends, and attending NASCAR races.

Neal was active in the community, serving on the Planning Commission and as Auditor and Supervisor for McKean Township.  He also served on the General McLane Board of Education as a member and past president. He was a lifetime member and past president of McKean Hose Company and served for many years as Chief of Fire Police.  He was a lifetime member of the St. Francis Ushers Club in McKean.  In recognition of his outstanding community service, Neal was chosen McKean’s Citizen of the Year in 1986.  He was also a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Valley of Erie Scottish Rite and Olive Lodge #575, Masonic Grand Lodge, State of New York.

In addition to his parents, Neal was preceded in death by his stepfather, Clifton (Bud) Glasgow; adoptive parents, Leonard and Mary Zimmer; and brothers, Thomas Glasgow and Roger Williams.

Neal leaves behind his wife of 58 years and 10 months, Barb; two daughters, Leigh Forbes and Kris (Brian) Williams, all of McKean; as well as grandchildren, Chloe Forbes (McKean), Jason (Katie) Spangenberg (Edinboro), and Corey (Liz) Spangenberg (Erie).  He is also survived by siblings Cecil (Lois) Williams (Arkansas), Bettie Unger (Hartstown), Nancy Stude (Arizona), Rita (Dennis) Stilwell (Arizona), and sisters-in-law, Janet Williams and Roni Barton (Arizona).

Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 3 to 7 p.m.  A funeral service will be held there on Friday at 11 a.m.   All CDC guidelines requiring face masks and social distancing will be in place.
