Joseph Skalko

October 6, 1927 — January 9, 2021

Joseph James Skalko, 93, of Edinboro, died Saturday, January 9, 2021 at LECOM Senior Living.  He was born in Edinboro on October 6, 1927, the son of the late Samuel and Mary Skalko.

Joe graduated from Edinboro High School and had owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. He later worked for several area builders as a carpenter and mason, and also as a plumber at Allegheny College.

Joe was an avid bowler and acquired a number of trophies throughout his life. He enjoyed puzzles and reading the newspaper.

He was a former member and officer of Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Crossingville, and a member and past trustee of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Erie.

Joe was preceded in death by five brothers, Peter, John, Harry, Daniel and Nick Skalko; and two sisters, Kay Miller and Mary Perkins.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Skalko; two sons, Joseph Skalko, Jr. and Douglas Skalko, both of Edinboro; three daughters, Patricia Mullen (Rob) of Meadville, Dr. Paula Miaczynski, D.O. (Daniel) of Erie, and Teresa Hido of Lake City; a sister, Ellie Bridges of Georgia; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe's family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gary Esper and all of the staff at LECOM Senior Living and Rehabilitation for their care and support.

Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Friday, January 15, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of a service at 10:00 a.m.

There will be a Panachida Prayer Service on Friday at 6:00 pm with Fr. Nicholas Mihaly officiating.

All CDC guidelines requiring face masks and social distancing will be in place.

The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
