Obituary

Henry F. “Hank” Knaus, 84, of Edinboro, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 in the arms of his beloved wife, Ruth, and his children at his side.  He was born in Marguerite, PA on August 27, 1936, the son of the late Henry and Margaret Knaus.

Hank graduated from Hurst High School in 1955.  He and Ruth were high school sweethearts and were married October 22, 1957 at Ft. Dix., NJ where he was serving in the US Army.  When his tour of duty took him to Germany, Ruth followed him there.

Hank was in the grocery business for 47 years.  At the age of 12, he was stocking shelves and sweeping the floors at Brown’s Market in Pleasant Unity, PA. In high school he worked after school at a meat market in South Greensburg. By the end of his career, he had served as Vice President and General Manager of the Erie Division of Loblaws and had also worked for A&P, Foodland and Erie Petroleum Convenience Stores.  He was a member of the NW Pennsylvania Erie Food Council and served as president for two terms.

Hank loved to golf and was proud of his hole-in-one at Riverside Golf Course.  He was a long time member of Culbertson Hills Golf Club in Edinboro, where he was a previous match play champion, and had even shot a 78 the week before entering the hospital for surgery.  He was a member of BPOE ELKS for 60 years, and was also a member of Edinboro United Methodist Church.

Hank and Ruth experienced many trips abroad, courtesy of Loblaws.  He was a Steelers season ticket holder since 1972 and had the good fortune to attend 3 Steeler Super Bowls.

Above all, Hank was a devoted family man and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth; two daughters, Kerri (Dennis) Taylor, of Fairview, Kelly (Robert) Klamut, of New Wilmington; a son, Kevin (Misty) Knaus, of Edinboro, 5 grandchildren, Ryan and  Rachel (Taylor), Sharon (Knaus) Evans, Patrick Knaus, and Stephanie (Klamut); also great-grandchildren, Matthew, Tommy, Raelyn and David Evans, Archer, Delila and Esjay Knaus; a sister, Mary (John) Drylie; and sisters-in-law, Jane Thomas and Jean Rowe, of Greensburg.

Hank’s family would like to extend thanks to all of the great nurses at UPMC Hamot, Presbyterian and Montifore Hospitals, and a special thanks to Asceracare Hospice nurses Julianna, Michelle and Jen for their support and care.
