Dixon Eisaman

Dixon Eisaman, 71, died peacefully at his home in New Castle, PA on Sunday August 21, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born in Renton, WA, a suburb of Seattle, on Feb. 15, 1951, the son of the late Chester M. Eisaman, Jr. and Marjorie Hall Eisaman. Dixon spent much of his childhood in Wattsburg, PA, and much of his adult life in Gibsonia, PA, near Pittsburgh.

Survivors include his son, Matthew Dixon Eisaman (Heather Lynch) of Port Jefferson, NY; one grandchild, Avery S. Eisaman; one sister, Christine Eisaman McDonald of Winchester, KY; and his former wife, Sharon Eisaman of Ligonier, PA. He is also survived by his nephew, Jordan D. Bigio of Utah, niece, Ashley M. McDonald Gurley (Justin) of Winchester, KY, as well as two additional nieces and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Paula S. Eisaman, in 2007.

Dixon (known to most as Dick) was active in academics, athletics, music, and the outdoors as a kid. He achieved the elite status of Order of the Arrow in the Boy Scouts of America and was a pole vaulter on the track and field team until an elbow injury cut his career short. He especially loved music and while in high school was a trombonist in the PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association) State Band.  He continued playing trombone throughout his adult life in community bands and could hold his own on the guitar.

Dick graduated from Penn State with a degree in Computer Science in 1976 and worked at a variety of software companies in the Pittsburgh area during his career, including Duquesne Systems and Legent. He read widely and had a variety of interests and hobbies, including amateur astronomy, arranging and composing music, and fly fishing in his later years. Dick also had his pilot’s license and, for a time, owned a small plane that he enjoyed flying around the area.

Dixon will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.  He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated father and grandfather, a devoted brother, and a caring and loyal friend with a sharp wit and keen sense of humor.

A memorial service and burial will be held at East Springfield Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
