Thomas Irvin Kingston, 76, of Edinboro died Saturday, May 31st, 2014, at the VA Hospital, Hospice Unit in Erie, PA. He was born in Erie on May 8th, 1938, the son of the late Paul and Gladys (Hornaman) Kingston.
He graduated from Academy High School in 1956. After High School he joined the Air Force. A Veteran of the USAF, he served at a Pennsylvania Radar Station. He then transferred to Yokoto Air Base in Japan for a year and then on to Osan Air Base in Korea. He worked for many companies following his service career; Honeywell, Univac, Friden and then Hammermill Paper Company as a Systems Analyst. Tom and his brother Ronald Kingston, joined forces and for 35 years proudly operated the R.P. Kingston Company in Erie, PA.
He was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Bradley Kingston.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years Bonnie (Riden) Kingston; a daughter Christie Edgren of Hingham, MA; a son Paul K Kingston and his wife Mary (Lucero) of Lansdowne, PA; a daughter Colleen Latimer and her husband Shane of Portland, OR; sister, Linda (Kingston Sopp) Rohrbach and her husband Charles of Fairview, PA and brother Ronald P Kingston and his wife Susan (Lewis) of Erie, PA and six grandchildren Madison and Cooper Edgren, Riden and Kadin Kingston and Catherine and Quintin Latimer.
Tom had many passions. One was for golf. You could find him out on the golf course every Sunday morning, rain or shine and many beautiful afternoons during the week when he could round up a quick twosome or foursome. Another passion was cars, he would buy a summer sports car, preferably a convertible to tinker with and drive. His greatest passion was his family. Although his children had moved away he kept close contact with phone calls, visits to their homes and their visits home to his paradise of Pennsylvania. He was always available for his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews birthdays, graduations and any family get together. He was the Patriarch of the Kingston family and proudly embraced that role.
Friends may call at the Riverside on the Green, 24527 Hwy 19, Cambridge Springs, PA on Thursday June 12th, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a brief memorial service immediately following.
The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie. PA 16505.
