Ruth Robinson

May 11, 1925 — December 30, 2017

Ruth Mae (Nesbitt) Robinson was born May 11, 1925, in Syracuse, New York, to Laura Schrader. Ruth grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania, and became the older sister to one sister and two brothers. She married Grover Jacob Robinson, and she and Grover built their home in McKean, Pennsylvania. They were the proud parents of five children, and were active foster parents. They were active members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and enjoyed helping others. Ruth served as the director of the Erie SDA Church’s Community Services center for more than 40 years.

In 1991 Ruth lost Grover, and in 2001 she moved to Hagerstown, Maryland, to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her desire to do what she could for others never disappeared. Her cooking skills were superb; anyone who visited her home was always offered something delicious to eat and never left hungry. She set a wonderful, selfless example by the way she lived, and was deeply loved by her family and friends.

On December 30, 2017, Ruth fell asleep in Jesus, in Hagerstown, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Grover (Dutch) Robinson; infant son, Grover Robinson, Jr.; mother, Laura (Schrader) Nesbitt; stepfather, Robert R. Nesbitt; brother, Robert H. Nesbitt; and granddaughter, Lisa (Peters) Little. She is survived by four daughters, Laura Joanne Ames, of Hagerstown, Maryland; Ruth Ann Robinson, of Hagerstown, Maryland; Helen Marie Smith, of Hagerstown, Maryland; and Ida Jean Cavil, of Hagerstown, Maryland; one son, Gary Jay Robinson, of Williamsport, Maryland; one sister, Frances (Nesbitt) Kosiorek, of Erie, Pennsylvania; one brother, William E. Nesbitt, of Edinboro, Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A graveside service will be Monday, January 8, 2018, at 1:00 pm, at Erie County Memorial Gardens in Erie. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742 or hospiceofwc.org/donate/.
