Russell "Russ" Sundy

Russell “Russ” William Sundy, 76 of Edinboro, PA, passed away on September 8, 2026. He was born in Erie, PA on January 14, 1950, the son of the late Florian “Bud” and Margaret “Marge” (Kuchar) Sundy.

He graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School and was then a part of the first group of coeds to attend and graduate from Mercyhurst College with a BS in Biology. He later went on to do post-graduate work at Edinboro University studying one of his passions; turtles.

Russ worked for Pittsburgh Public Schools as a biology teacher for 28 years. Post retirement, Russ worked for the National Park Service’s summer student programs at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and Camp Verde in Arizona, exploring and teaching about the great outdoors. He was a proud member of the Turtle Survival Alliance and loved to rescue turtles, often bringing them back for his students, neighbors, family, and friends to see. He also spent summers volunteering at Tamarack Wildlife Center and would drive all around the region, rescuing injured wildlife for rehabilitation.

Well known for his gardening skills, Russ was a naturalist and provided an eclectic look to his landscaping and yard. If he didn’t pick up his phone, you could always trust that he was out in the yard with his four legged, best friend, Buffy, goofing around. Once the day in the yard was over, he would move on to his other favorite past time; FaceTiming with his granddaughter, Rory, before bedtime.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ron Sundy and sister-in-law Judy Sundy.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Marlene Burns Sundy; a son, Sean Russell Sundy (Danielle Adamowicz); a daughter, Alyssa Anne Sundy (Jeff Kushner); granddaughter, Aurora Rose; brother, Gary (Annie) Sundy; sister, Norma Jean (Art) Kalish; his dog, Buffy; and grand dogs, Nyx and Cosmo.

No services will be held at this time. The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro is entrusted with arrangements
