Martha A. Stark

Martha A Stark, 92 of East Herkimer, NY passed away Friday, March 29, 2024. She was born in the Town of Columbia on September 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Hugick) Sarafin.

Martha attended Richfield Springs Central Schools.  She married William Stark on October 15, 1949 at St. Joseph Church in Richfield Springs.   Martha and William owned and operated a family dairy farm until 1966 when they founded Stark Electric Motor Service, now operated by their son, Michael who joined the family business in 1982.   Martha attended Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church in Herkimer.

Martha was a strong woman who was always present for her husband and children.  She found great pleasure in cooking for family gatherings and loved to be outdoors tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed a good game of Rummy with whomever was up for the challenge.   When the weather allowed, she enjoyed getting out on the golf course with her husband, Bill or her grandson, Billy.   She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Martha was predeceased by her husband, William Stark; one son, William Stark Jr; a daughter and son in law, Laureen and Thomas Scanlon; a granddaughter, Kristen Cammuso; four sisters, Emma, Ida, Genevive and Catherine; and six brothers, Charles, Joseph, John, Stanley, Martin and Leon Sarafin.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Anne Marie and Paul Cammuso of Naples, FL, Cynthia and Gunnar Wickman of Moyie Springs, ID,  Linda and Mark Sowa of Auburn, NH, Michele and Thomas Renner of Uniontown, OH, and Jacqueline and Steven Rhen of Edinboro, PA; one son, Michael Stark and his companion, Lonnie Chapman of East Herkimer; two sisters, Marian Staruck of Jordanville and Ann Szeflinski of Richfield Springs; and one brother, Paul Sarafin of Jordanville; 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a long time neighbor and friend, Janet LaBreche.

Martha’s wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest with her husband, William, and son, Billy.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at St Joseph Church, 35 Canadarago St., Richfield Springs, NY.

The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
