Marian Vanco

Marian Margaret Vanco, 92, of Edinboro, passed away on November 27, 2017 at Independence Court, tended to by her loving family.

Marian was born on September 20, 1925 in Erie, PA, the daughter of the late William and Ruth (Elliot) Banister. She was the eldest of the 11 Banister children. Marian finished her education in 8th grade and went to work in a local Erie factory. She met Rudolph Vanco on a blind double date, and they were married on July 14, 1945. Marian happily settled in as a housewife, while Rudolph was an over-the-road truck driver. A few years later, they bought a farm in Edinboro, which they named Pleasant View Farm. Marian, a city girl, learned how to be a farmer's wife. Marian and Rudolph celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2010.

Marian had three children; Anna, Patricia and Thomas. She also raised a granddaughter, Tina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph; sisters, Dorothy and Jean; and brothers, William, Raymond, Robert “Hank” and James.

Marian is survived by her daughter, Anna Gillespie and her husband, Paul, of John's Creek, GA; granddaughter, Tina Marie Olsen, her husband, Eric and great grandaughter, Abigail, of Erie; daughter, Patricia Kaleida and her husband, Robert, of Cranesville, PA; grandson, Brian Kaleida, his wife, Sandeepa and great grandchildren, Nathan, Joshua, Nicholas and Jaya of Mars, PA; grandson Eric Kaleida, his wife, Kris and great grandchildren Jack and Mara of Camp Hill, PA; and son, Thomas Vanco and his wife, Karen, of Edinboro, PA; granddaughter, Michelle Rauscher and great granddaughters Lyric and Savannah of Edinboro, PA. She is also survived by two sisters, Stella Auer and Ruth Banister, both of Erie; two brothers, Jack Banister and Thomas Banister; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 128 Sunset Drive, Edinboro, PA on Wednesday, November 29th from 10 to 11 a.m, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with Fr. Daniel Hoffman officiating, with Fr. John Jacquel co-celebrant.

The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
