Margaret Kingston

d. April 11, 2015

Margaret Irene (Creacraft) Kingston, 91, of Edinboro, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family Saturday April 11, 2015 at her home, following a two year battle against cancer. Born November 23, 1923, at the family farm on Drake Hill Rd., Centerville, PA; she was the youngest of five children born to the late Loyal and Mrytle Bidwell Creacraft.
Margaret attended Center School, graduated from Townville High School in 1941 and obtained her teaching degree from Edinboro State Teachers College in 1944.  During high school and college years, she was active in basketball and field hockey.  In the summers she worked at Sunset Camp and attended Grange dances, where she met her husband Bernard Kingston, they were married on August 14, 1948 at Townville Methodist Church.  Margaret has made Edinboro her home for over sixty-six years.
Margaret's teaching career started in the third and forth grades at Hydetown Elementary School, followed by many years at Brookside Elementary in Harborcreek, and several years at Edinboro Elementary.  She was also a full time homemaker, until she became kitchen manager of Uncle Charlies Pizza Pub in Edinboro Mall, until her retirement in 1988, when she and Bernard spent winters in Florida. Margaret devoted many hours to the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department  Ladies Auxillary, chairing dinners and fund raisers, for which she received many distinguished awards, including "Out Standing Member of the Year" and "Life Time Membership", most often we remember her making salads and pies for the annual chicken bar-b-que, and running the grill during bingo night.
Family meant a lot to Margaret, a quality she inherited from her mother.  Margaret was a proud member of the National Bidwell Family Association, often traveling across the country to attend reunion gatherings.  She co-hosted the 1981 national reunion with her sister Frances Werling at Edinboro State College.  Margaret enjoyed collecting ornamental frogs of all kinds, baking, crafting and gardening, but most of all watching her children and grandchildren competing in sports and showing their animals in 4-H and local fairs.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Kingston (Jan.4, 2002), three brothers Willis, Lawrence, and Raymond Creacraft, also, sister-in-laws Edythe Creacraft, Irene Tobin, and Virgina Kingston.
Survivors include a daughter, Rene' Kingston, and her companion, Ron Viera, of Edinboro; a son, Eric Kingston and his wife, Judy, and four grandchildren, Nicole, Jesse, Ashley, and Cassandra Kingston all of Cambridge Springs; a sister, Frances Werling of Meadville and a brother-in-law, Robert Kingston of Connelly Spring, NC; also, many nieces and nephews.
In the past few months Margaret was cared for by her daughter Rene', first born granddaughter Nicole, daughter-in-law Judy, son Eric and surrounded with many loving gestures by grandchildren Jesse, Ashley and Cassie.  In addition we would like to thank, Carren, Miranda, Kathy, and everyone from Regional Hospice for their care and guidance.
" Margaret has brought us together and shown us our strengths and our weaknesses, to better our lives, and given us that strength to carry on."
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  A service will be held there on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Priestap officiating.
