Margaret “Maggi” C. Cusack Stablein, 73, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, continually surrounded by those that loved her dearly.
Born on December 10, 1952 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Margaret entered into the world as an inquisitive and vivacious individual. She lived with her mother, father, and three sisters. She attended Catholic School from kindergarten through eighth grade and enjoyed her summertime at the playground with her friends Joyce, Bernadette, Karen, and her sisters, or pet bird, Alvin. She then enrolled in high school at Homestead High School where she graduated as the valedictorian. After exiting high school, she was accepted into the University of Pittsburgh. Two and a half years later, she paused her studies to work and study abroad in Ireland, a place she has returned to many times since. She enrolled back into college at Edinboro University, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She later went on to become a professor in the English department.
While living and working in Edinboro, Robert Stablein met Margaret and soon after they were married. Maggi and Robert then had two children, Elizabeth and Mike. They all then lived in Edinboro, for the past forty plus years. She has always put her children first, especially when it came to their education. She was always proud of her children’s accomplishments with Elizabeth’s master’s in School Psychology and Mike’s doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Maggi had a lifelong passion for helping others and volunteered endlessly whenever she was needed. As an avid reader, she enjoyed countless books throughout her life and was known for her intelligence and love of learning. She especially loved gathering with her family to play her favorite game, Trivial Pursuit, where her quick mind always shined. Maggi was widely known for her sense of humor and classic wit, bringing laughter and warmth to those around her. She was also well known in Edinboro and across multiple states for her exceptional baking talents. Her homemade cookies brought joy to hundreds of lucky recipients, creating memories and comfort that will long be remembered with gratitude.
Maggi is survived by her husband, Robert Stablein; her children, Elizabeth Ladd and Mike Stablein; and two grandchildren, Owen and Cameron Ladd as well as her sisters, Mary Medvitz and Michele Cusack; sister-in-law, Julie Falenski; brother-in-law, Steve Borcik; nieces, Michele Medvitz and Maura Dye; nephews, Steven and Brendan Borcik; as well as the Brickner Family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Elizabeth Cusack; older sister, Patricia Borcik, and brother-in-law, Lawerence Medvitz. Maggi always had a passion for her friendships with Chris and Jean Kozackski, Dot Pazko, and Gina Pilewski. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staffs of AHN Saint Vincent Hospital and Edinboro Manor for their compassionate care and thorough attention throughout her stay.
Friends and family will gather Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 11:30 A.M. at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Edinboro, PA to pay their respects prior to the mass held at 1:00 P.M., also held within Our Lady of the Lake Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to continue the hard work of Thrifty Threads where Maggi worked for multiple years after retirement. Maggi will be remembered for her caring heart, spunky attitude, high level of intelligence, sense of humor, and selflessness dedication to others, especially her family. She carried kindness wherever she went, and left warmth wherever she stayed.
