Loretta (Sawicki) Vanstone

Loretta Vanstone, 76 of Edinboro, died Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital.  She was born in Pittsburgh, on October 8, 1947, the daughter of the late Walter J. and Josephine (Kuzio) Sawicki, and later also raised by Cyl (Alexandrunas) Sawicki.

Upon graduation from Vincentian Academy High School in Pittsburgh, Loretta went on to study Dental Hygiene at the University of Pittsburgh Dental School. She worked as a dental hygienist for over forty years, primarily in the offices of Dr. Marie Crocker and Dr. Robert Halmi.

Loretta enjoyed playing games, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, reading and coloring, and dining out with friends.  Community involvement was very important to her. She was an active volunteer and grateful member of Al-Anon Family Groups.  Loretta was a long-time member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Edinboro, where she served as a deacon, an elder and sang in the choir. Above all, spending time with family and friends was what she cherished most. She was a loving mother, caring grandma, and sweet friend.

Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Vanstone, in 2011.  She is survived by her son, Vincent (Kanlayanee) Koscielniak of Fort Worth, TX; and her daughter, Amy (Michael) Hesse of Ann Arbor, MI; and her grandchildren, Caleb, Cameron.

There will be a gathering of Family and Friends at the First United Presbyterian Church, 4281 Route 6N, Edinboro, on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 11 am to 12 pm and will be immediately followed by a memorial service at noon..

Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Edinboro Cemetery.
