WATERFORD -- Lewis Gibbons, Jr., of Waterford, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, surrounded by family, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Erie. He was born in Phillipston, PA on April 2, 1935, son of the late Lewis and Lula Shay Gibbons.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was an avid hunter and talented story teller. His wife and family, and friends will miss his quick wit and unique expressions. He was one of a kind.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost fifty-five years, Minerva Goodman Gibbons; five sons, Bruce Gibbons of Waterford; Mike Gibbons and his wife Melissa, of Waterford; Pat Gibbons and his wife April, of Waterford; Phillip Gibbons and his wife Robin of West Chester, Ohio; and Brian Gibbons of Waterford; his daughter, Cheryl Baney and her husband Fred of Waterford; two brothers, Kenneth Gibbons of FL; and Lawrence Gibbons of Erie; two sisters, Grace Smith of North East; and Josephine Keefer of Butler; also 16 cherished grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
