Karen Ann Sanford, 60, passed away in Jacksonville, FL on July 26, 2015. She was born in Erie, PA on February 26, 1955 to John and Anna Sekel.
Karen was a committed and caring woman. She is the former owner and current employee of Jacksonville’s well known bicycle shops, Champion Cycling, a founding member of St. Justin Martyr Orthodox Church and a proud mother of Eagle Scout Troop 212 . Karen was also the founder and curriculum coordinator for St. Justin Martyr’s Sunday school and a member of the church choir. When Karen wasn’t participating with the many activities in the life of the church she could be found cooking with Jacksonville’s oldest cooking group, studying the bible with the ladies group of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, scrapbooking, cycling, sailing and kayaking.
Family members include her loving and devoted husband of 35 years, Stan Sanford; son, Austin Sanford; daughter, Nicole Sanford; father, John Sekel, brother, Larry Sekel (Lynn): sister, Janet Casciato (Dan); and several nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy for the Departed was held at St. Justin Martyr Orthodox Church on Wednesday, July 29th at 9:00 a.m. Her final resting place will be at SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church Cemetery located in Crossingville, PA.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Friday, July 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 1 pm at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Mosiertown Rd., Crossingville, PA.
