John Kovschak

August 2, 1947 — January 29, 2026

Edinboro

John Kovschak, 78, of Edinboro, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Edinboro Manor. He was born in Erie on August 2, 1947, the son of the late John and Katherine Kovschak.

John graduated from General McLane High School in 1966 and went on to proudly serve in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. Upon returning home, he resumed work with Tucci Trucking and later began a long and dedicated career with PennDOT. He retired in 2007 after 22 years as a heavy equipment operator, known for his strong work ethic, mechanical knowledge, and steady reliability.

John enjoyed a life rooted in the outdoors and hands-on work. He found joy in hunting and fishing, tending to his garden, and working on tractors—hobbies that reflected his love of nature and his knack for fixing. He also had a love for animals, especially his two dogs, Cooper and Chelsea, who were constant companions and brought him comfort and companionship throughout the years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Kovschak, and a brother-in-law, Allen Stevens.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deborah; two daughters, Christina Learn (Jake) and Julie Snyder (Paul), both of Edinboro; three brothers, Edward (Robyn), William (Deborah), and James Kovschak, all of Edinboro; a sister, Susan Bowers (Fred) of Rockdale Township; his brother-in-law, Greg Stevens (Sandy); and four grandchildren—Ethan and Avery Snyder, and Hailey and Austin Learn.
