H. Craig Engel

d. April 20, 2014

H. Craig Engel, 68, of Edinboro, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at his home.  He was born in North Tonawanda, NY on August 16, 1945, the son of the late Viola Hall Engel and Harold M. Engel.
He lived in Kenmore, NY and Philadelphia, PA before moving to Edinboro in 1961.  Craig was a 1963 graduate of General McLane High School.  He received a degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University in 1965.
He was employed by G. E. in Erie, working for 36 years before retiring in 2000. Craig was a very active and an influential member/officer of U.E. Local 506.
An avid sailor for over 30 years, he was a past member of Presque Isle Yacht Club.  He enjoyed racing and cruising on the Great Lakes and the Caribbean, living aboard his last two sailboats with his loving springer spaniel “Cosmo”. During retirement he designed and oversaw the building of a large marina in Florida on the coastal waterway.
He had an extensive woodworking shop, but mostly you would see him on his Kobota tractor mowing the neighborhood fields with his dog either riding up top or chasing moles in the field grasses.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dana Marie Baer and his English springer spaniel, Cosmo.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Dee (Dolores) Breckley Baer Engel; his step children, David Baer and his wife, Patti, of Pittsburgh and Debbie King and her husband, Jon, of Westerville, OH; 4 grandchildren, Patrick Baer, Lisa Baer, Sydney King and Justin King; sister-in-laws, Jeanne (Joe) McCallion and Kathy (Vincent) Orlando; many nieces and nephews; and his “adopted” family, Rocco and Kathy Lariccia, Mike and Debbie Brinker, Sally Hollobaugh, Tim and Lynette Mattson.
Special thanks to his doctors, Kevin Kuric and Mark Yost; Great Lakes Home Health Staff and Volunteers.
