Evelyn A. Beggs

Evelyn A. Beggs, 92, of Edinboro, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Edinboro Manor. She was born in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, on September 15, 1933, the daughter of the late Fred and Ellen Stout. The youngest of five children, she grew up in a small row house with her brothers, Fred and Jack, and her sisters, Ellen “Betty” and Julia.

After college, Evelyn attended nursing school in Philadelphia, where she met the love of her life, David Beggs, who was a medical student at Jefferson Medical College. Evelyn and David married and lived in Somerville, New Jersey, and Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, before ultimately settling in Fair Haven, New Jersey, where they raised their two children, Daniel, born in 1961, and Ann, born in 1970.

Over the years, Evelyn worked periodically in the office of David’s dermatology practice in Red Bank. She also devoted much of her time to volunteering at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion in Fair Haven.

Evelyn loved gardening and woodworking. She was a regular visitor to the woodshop at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, where she built furniture and household items. Perhaps her most impressive project was renovating the unfinished basement of the family’s Fair Haven home, including the construction of a darkroom for David, a dedicated photographer.

Evelyn endured the sudden death of David in 1995. After his passing, she remained in the family home on Heights Terrace with her sister, Julia. In 2011, Evelyn and Julia relocated to Morris Plains, New Jersey, where they purchased a home near Evelyn’s son, Daniel. Sadly, Evelyn’s daughter, Ann, also died unexpectedly in March 2013, followed by her sister, Julia, in December of that year.

Evelyn was a loving, empathetic and patient woman, known for her sweet, soft voice and a smile that could light up a room.

She is survived by her son, Daniel Beggs; her grandchildren, Padrick Beggs and Katherine Medici and her husband, Michael; Daniel’s wife, Lisa Beggs, and her children, Giana Vella, Amara Vella, Chloe Vella, and Danielle Olorunsogo and her husband, Deji Olorunsogo and her three great-grandchildren, Elliot Medici, Riley Medici and Neo Olorunsogo.
