Emil Chernicky, 87, of McKean Twp. died Friday, March 17, 2017 at Millcreek Community Hospital. He was born in McKean on January 22, 1930, the son of the late Joseph and Anna Chernicky.

Living in the McKean area all of his life, he enjoyed the construction business and became owner and operator of Emil Chernicky and Sons Builders. He retired after 40 years.

Emil proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, served on the building committee, and in 1975 made his Cursillo. He was a past member of the General McLane School Board, a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Ushers Club, the McKean Lions Club, and the Siebenduerger Club. He enjoyed hunting and watching the Steelers play at camp with many of the family gathering to enjoy the game and pot luck after.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Bertha “Bea” Chernicky in 2008; 7 brothers, Paul, George, Tom, Edward, John, Joseph, and Peter Chernicky; and 4 sisters, Mary Radel, Irene Chernicky, Anne Szuminski, and Betty Dubinski.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Balsiger of Grand Valley, PA; 3 sons, Ken Chernicky and his wife, Barb, of McKean, and Emil J. “E.J.” Chernicky and his wife, Amy, of Edinboro, and Mike Chernicky of Florida; a brother William Chernicky and his wife, Joan, of McKean; a very special friend, Reva Nelson; also 5 grandchildren, Brian, Micah, Kris, Matt, and Kiley; 17 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Mark Nowak officiating.

Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
