Elizabeth R. “Betty” Gilbert, 81, of Edinboro, died Monday, June 14, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born in McKeesport, PA on May 30, 1940, the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Kalo.
Betty graduated from Duquesne High School and earned a masters degree in education from the former Edinboro State College. She was a beloved educator in the General McLane School District for 28 years, also serving there as secretary of the teacher's association, cheerleading advisor and prom coordinator for many years. She was a member of Alpha Delta sorority, and enjoyed many years in card club with her friends.
Betty married Gary Gilbert on August 12, 1961, and they were quite the pair. It will be hard to refer to Gary without saying “Gary and Betty”. Betty was a devoted wife and mother who loved and adored her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. She cared deeply for others and could brighten any room with her smile, regardless of the situation. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Gary; three sons, Scott (Lisa), Michael (Lauralynn) and Gary (Shelly) Gilbert; six grandchildren, Tim (Sarah), Tyler (Sami), Nicholas (Kayla), Lilley-Kate, Samantha and Lucas; a great-grandson, Gideon; two sisters, Alice Betzner and Margie Urda; and a sister-in-law, Pam Kushon.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 128 Sunset Dr., Edinboro, PA 16412 on Saturday at 11 am.
