Eileen Grace Knepshield, 85, of Edinboro, died Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Pleasant Ridge Manor. She was born in Windber, PA on November 3, 1940, the first daughter of the late John and Barbara Daily.
After growing up in Windber with her brother, John (Jack) and sister, Betty, Eileen earned her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She met her husband, Roger L. Knepshield, also a music major, at Indiana University. They were married after her graduation on December 29, 1961.
While Roger became an Associate Professor of Music at Edinboro University, Eileen chaired the University Music Department's unit of the Preparatory Division for over twenty years, which provided music lessons to the community given by University professors. She was a prolific piano teacher with the Preparatory Division herself.
Eileen was an active member of the Pennsylvania Music Teacher's Association, and an accomplished cellist. She and Roger performed professionally with a number of local orchestras, including the Edinboro University Orchestra, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, the Westminster College Orchestra, and the Youngstown Symphony in Ohio. In addition, she administered and performed with a professional string quintet at events in the area throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
She was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Edinboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Roger; a daughter, Amy Knepshield; her brother, Jack; and her sister, Betty. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Mark Hauser) Knepshield, of Evanston, IL; and a grandson, Clark Hauser.
A viewing and funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 427 West Plum St., Edinboro, PA. The viewing will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., followed by a short reception at the church.
There will be a private burial in Riverview Cemetery in Apollo, PA. Memorial donations in Eileen's name can be made to Pleasant Ridge Manor, 8300 West Ridge Road, Girard, PA, 16417, in recognition of the genuinely loving care they provided to her in the last years of her life.
