Edward “Don” Dougan, 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born to Edward and Elaine Dougan on May 2, 1944. He peacefully passed away surrounded by his loved ones on December 26, 2025.
A devoted husband for 38 years to Mary Dougan, Don was also a loving father to Molly and Ryan Dougan (Lisa), and a proud grandfather to Arilynn (16), Claire (8), Eko (8), Weston (7), Gideon (3), and one more grandchild on the way. He will be remembered for his loving, selfless spirit and his ability to make others feel seen and valued.
Don was a devoted family man, a gifted athlete, and a skilled craftsman. His athletic achievements were many, and he was especially known for his talent in basketball as an All-American from Harborcreek, later earning a place in the Edinboro Athletics Hall of Fame for his remarkable 17 rebounds per game average. His passion for sports was matched by his love for hard work and craftsmanship. He opened a successful metal polishing business that he ran for several years, pouring his skill and dedication into everything he did.
Above all, Don was a loving and selfless father and husband. He served his family with humility, always willing to provide for them and lead by example. Though tough as nails, he had a goofy side that brought joy and laughter to those around him. His ability to make others smile and feel seen was a true gift.
Most importantly, Don loved God deeply. His faith in Christ became especially evident in his later years, as he spent much time studying the scriptures and seeking to grow closer to God. He understood that all his accomplishments and knowledge paled in comparison to the grace of Christ. His hope was firmly in Christ alone, and he shared that hope boldly, even in his final moments. In the week before he passed into eternity, he proclaimed the love of Jesus to the nurses who cared for him.
Don’s legacy will live on in the lives of his family, friends, and all who knew him. His love, his faith, and his example of selflessness will never be forgotten.
Besides his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his sisters, Deanna and Susan, and his lifelong friends he considered brothers, Bill DeDionsio and George Sell.
