Dr. Michael D. “Buzz” Paulus, age 68, of Edinboro, passed away February 7, 2025 peacefully at home surrounded by family after a sudden illness. He was born July 2, 1957 in Westfield, and grew up in Mayville, NY.
He was a member of the United States Army for six years, and was stationed in White Sands, NM, Augsburg, Germany, and Clarksville, TN. During his service he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He went on to complete his Masters in Social Work at the University of Buffalo and culminated his education with a PhD in Social Work at Rutgers University.
His passion for decades was being a Social Work professor and teaching the next generation of social workers. He was a professor at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and finished his teaching career at Lockhaven University of Pennsylvania. He loved to teach and took great joy in seeing his students’ successes over the years.
Mike loved to experience the thrill of traveling and went on road trips every chance he got, and most recently discovered the joy of train travel. He kept a United States map on the wall and would color in every state he had been to, and dreamt of one day making it all the way to Alaska.
An avid Buffalo Bills fan, he enjoyed watching games with family and friends, and also loved going to away games to see them play. His laugh, humor and free spirit will be remembered fondly by all of the people that crossed his path throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Lou; his loving wife, Phyllis; three daughters, Rachel, Brittany, and Taylor; two sons, Ben (Rachele) and Jerry; also his grandchildren, Milania and Meadow. He was predeceased by his father David “Buzz” and brother Marty.
