Douglas Steven Myers

April 20, 1972 — March 23, 2024

McKean, PA

Douglas Steven Myers, 51, of McKean, passed away after battling a long illness, surrounded by his wife and children at St Vincent Hospital on March 23, 2024.

Doug was born in Erie, to Francis “Frank” Joseph Myers, Jr. and Jean Marie (Wisinski) on April 20, 1972.  Siblings include Francis (Diane), Norman, Mark (Lisa), Mary Katherine (Todd), Antoinette (Ronald) and Christopher.

Doug married the love of his life, Laurie (Beck) in June 2001.  They built their beautiful family including, Douglas (Fallon), Daniel “DJ” (Megan), Dylan (Leslie), Danielle “Liz” (Landon), and Dayna, their children.  Their grandchildren, Coen, Delaney and Dawson are the light in Doug’s eyes.

Doug is a 1990 graduate of General McLane High School and Erie County Vo-Tech. As a young adult he was a volunteer with the McKean Hose Co. He worked many years in purchasing and operations positions in the manufacturing environment after graduation.  Although Doug enjoyed his career, his favorite accomplishment was his “Party Pig” Catering time.  Doug has been retired for several months due to his illness.

Preceding Douglas in death are his Grandparents, Joseph and Genevieve Wisinski, Francis and Roberta Myers, William Carpenter, Frank and Charlotte Beck and Father-in-Law, Henry Cole and Godfather Richard Wisinski..

In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Laurie; his children Douglas, Jr (Fallon), Daniel (Megan), Dylan (Leslie), Danielle (Landon), and Dayna. His grandchildren Coen, Delaney and Dawson. He is also survived by Godchildren, Nick, Chelsey and Jayden.  Siblings, Francis “Frank” (Diane), Norman, Mark (Lisa), Mary Katherine (Todd), Antoinette (Ronald),  Christopher, and Jason (Yvonne) Beck.  He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends.

Doug could always light up a room with his smile and outgoing personality. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave a lasting impression. Doug was one of the most sweet and caring men you could ever meet. If you needed help with something, you could always count on Doug to show up and help you however he could.

Doug loved spending time with his wife and kids playing cornhole, hanging out in the pool, and just hanging out on their beautiful property. Doug spent much of his life raising his kids to be hardworking, successful individuals in sports and in life. He had the pleasure of coaching little league baseball and youth wrestling while his kids were young. Doug loved spending time watching his kids grow up to be successful wrestlers just as him and his brothers were. He also excelled in arm-wrestling which he has carried on by teaching his kids, nieces and nephews and anyone willing to “lock up” with him.

Doug also supported his daughters and encouraged them as a loving and doting dad by spending countless hours in auditoriums for dance performances, as a spectator in the stands for basketball and on the sidelines of the soccer fields.  Doug helped his girls become the confident and successful women they have become.

If you knew Doug, you know he loved his one liners and movie quotes that would make you smile and laugh no matter how many times you heard it. “Mr Kimble, are you alright?” and “Call me Thursday” from Kindergarten Cop, “It’s gotta be your bull” from Tommy Boy and “Bobby, Johnny, get him!” from Karate Kid are a few of his staples. No matter what type of mood you were in, Doug could always make your day better with big, kind, and comedic personality.

Doug’s wife and children would like to thank the ICU Critical Care Team at AHN St Vincent for offering Doug the best care he could have possibly received. They made his journey home the most comfortable as could be when our Lord called him home.

As Mother Theresa said: Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.  Life is beauty, admire it.  Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. Life is life, fight for it.
