Dennis G. Smith formerly of Edinboro passed away January 2, 2013 at the age of 82 at Brookside Homes in Erie, from complications of pneumonia.  He was born in Erie on February 2, 1930, the son of Jay M. Smith and Marjory V. (Speed) Smith.
He was a 1947 graduate of Erie Technical High School.  After graduation he worked with his grandfather in the family floor finishing business until joining the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict.  He graduated Erie Commercial College in 1955 where he met his future wife, Nancy J. Gardner.  They were married on October 20, 1956.  Dennis had a desire to own his own business.  He and Nancy owned a donut shop in Erie during the late 50’s early 60’s.  He then went into the hardwood floor business on his own.  When hardwood floors began to be replaced with wall to wall carpet he went to work for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, retiring after 15 years and returned to the hardwood floor business.  He retired and sold the business the mid 90’s.
He enjoyed hunting, skeet shooting, raising and training hunting dogs, playing tenor banjo and harmonica, and was an avid square dancer.  He had memberships in several organizations including the Presque Isle Field archers where he was a former secretary, Skycrest Skeet club, Presque Isle Beagle Club, Lake Edinboro Sportsman Club, Union City Moose club where he served as former treasurer, Waterford American Legion Post #285, and the Edinboro/McKean VFW Post #740.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Nancy J. (Gardner) Smith in August 2010, and his brother Jay S. Smith in July 2012.
He is survived by three sons; Timothy (Nora) of Erie, Daniel (Diana) of Nittany, PA, and Scott of Edinboro; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on  Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, from 12 noon until the time of  a funeral service at 1 p.m. with Rev. Barb English officiating.
Burial will be in Draketown Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Regional Home Health & Hospice, 3526 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16508.
