David Szymanski, Dds

January 2, 1953 — December 13, 2017

On Wednesday, December 13, 2017, our greatly beloved David W. Szymanski unexpectedly went to be with our Lord.

He was born on January 2, 1953, in Erie PA, to the late Joseph Szymanski, Sr. and the late Irene Wedzikowski Szymanski. A 1970 graduate of Gen. McLane High School, David attended Gannon University and went on to graduate from Edinboro University, while working full time at GE. After graduation, he returned to school to pursue dentistry. Always the perfectionist, David graduated first in his class at West Virginia University, School of Dentistry.

Returning to the Erie area after graduation, he practiced for over 27 years at his office on Peach Street. Dr. Szymanski was greatly loved and respected for his kind, gentle bedside manner, his integrity in his practice, and his brilliant craftsmanship on everything which his talented hands touched. He could literally fix or build anything, not just teeth, and enjoyed the thrill of the challenge. He playfully enjoyed life, and was a master of many skills, such as cooking, building and repairing any kind of motor, projects around his home or office, and completing word puzzles in record time. Although many tried, no one could compete with his garden, and no one could make fudge like he could. Dave was quietly and unintentionally the life of the party with his quick wit and clever sense of humor, never one to let an opportunity go by to make everyone laugh. Of all of his passions, his family was truly the heart of who Dave Szymanski was.

David is survived by his wife, Joyce (McNulty) Szymanski, whom he adored (and also kept laughing for over 40 years!). Their deep and enduring love was a sweet inspiration and solid anchor for those around them. His legacy lives on in his son, Matthew Szymanski and his wife Melissa (Tambroni), his daughter Nicole (Szymanski) Volk and her husband Bryan, and his beloved grandchildren Grayson and Tenley Szymanski. He loved and served his wife, children, and grandchildren with every fiber of his being, and was incredibly proud of them all. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Szymanski, Jr. (Eve) three sisters: Mary Hanko (Victor), Shirley Dows (David), and Lynette Klobusnik (Dale), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was deeply loved and respected, and the hole left by his sudden passing is immense.

Friends and family are invited to call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday at the Edinboro United Methodist Church from 10am until the time of a funeral service at 11 am.

Burial will be in Edinboro Cemetery. Memorials may be made to March of Dimes, 1131 W. 38th St, Erie, PA 16508 or an organization of your choice in David's Name. To send condolences please visit www.gluntfuneralhome.com.
