Charlotte May Therasse’s story began on April 21, 1930, when she was born to Charles and Dorothy Windsor. She was one of 5 siblings with whom she remained close to throughout her life. She often spoke of her heartbreak at the loss of her father when she was only 19, and her mother, who she cared for until her death at 90. For Charlotte, family was everything.
She met the love of her life, David Therasse, when they were young, and were married in 1950. Together, they had 3 daughters, Susan, Michelle, and Nicole, and built a life in Erie, PA where she worked at GE for many years. She eventually opened her own flower shop, Therasse Floral. They later settled in Edinboro, PA, where she worked at various floral shops until she opened Designs by Sue with her daughter, Susan Ford.
After retiring, Charlotte remained active throughout the course of her life. She was a regular attendee of Washington Valley Christian Church and had served as a deacon there. She was active in Share and Care and could often be found volunteering her time cooking and creating beautiful flower arrangements for the church’s various activities. She also spent many years working in the kitchen at Nick’s Place and making elegant flower arrangements at A Floral Affair in Edinboro with her wonderful friend, Colleen and at Treasured Memories in Cambridge Springs. She was also a former member of the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Wherever there was a need, Charlotte was there to lend a helping hand.
Anyone who knew Charlotte knew of her witty humor, her giving nature, and her love for her family. They also knew she was strong and tenacious, battling cancer many times and winning. She was often admired as being unstoppable. Charlotte had a fire in her belly that could only be tamed by acts of service. She was a loving person who gave so much of herself in the service of others.
She spent the last few years of her life battling dementia, a thief in the night that robbed her and her family of the ability to enjoy her last years on Earth. Her lifelong service to others was repaid in her final years with the loving and selfless care provided by her daughters, Susan Ford and Nicole McCool, her loving granddaughter and grandson, Heidi Smith and Chris Kutz, and her sister-in-law, Nedra Windsor. Their dedication to her comfort ensured she received the best love, support and care until the moment that she drew her final breath.
Despite the loss of her memory of most of her loved ones that surrounded her in the final days of her life, Charlotte always remembered her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and often called to him in prayer. Let us not forget the power of His name.
Charlotte’s days of battle ended on August 31, 2024, when she ran into His welcoming arms while all of heaven rejoiced that she had finally returned home. Waiting for her in Heaven were those who preceded her in death, including her beloved husband, David Therasse, her father, Charles Windsor, her mother, Dorothy Windsor, her siblings, Elouise (James) Davis, Robert Windsor, Charles (Shirley) Windsor and Francis (Patricia) Windsor, her daughter, Michelle Thayer, her son-in-law, Duane Ford, and her grandson, Eric Haynes.
While Heaven rejoices, those of us on Earth are devastated by her loss and will forever cherish her memory. These include her sister-in-law, Nedra Windsor; her daughters, Susan Ford and Nicole (David) McCool; her grandchildren Heidi (Chris Kutz) Smith, Amy (John) Mosconi, Jenna (Manny) Yanes, and Derek (Laura) McCool, as well as many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
No calling hours will be observed. Burial will be private at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro has been entrusted with arrangements. In memory of Charlotte, plant a tree or donate in her name to the charity of your choice.
