Carole W. Smith, 81 of Edinboro, died Sunday, May 25, 2025 at her home. She was born in Pittsburgh on February 8, 1944, the daughter of the late Robert and Louise White.

Carole graduated from General McLane High School in 1961. She attended Bethany College in Bethany, WV before graduating from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1966. She later obtained a master’s degree and post-master’s certification in educational administration from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

Carole had a long career as an elementary school teacher, reading specialist and school administrator, including serving as the principal at Wattsburg elementary, Maplewood elementary and Corry elementary schools.

Carole enjoyed gardening, traveling, kayaking and reading. She volunteered at the Edinboro Food Pantry and was a member of the Edinboro Area Historical Society, Edinboro Book Club and First Presbyterian Church of Edinboro.

Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Merrill Smith; a daughter, Paige Smith of Owings Mills, MD; a son, Robert “Bob” (Shelly) Smith and grandson, Christian Smith of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Mary Anne Williams of Erie, PA; a sister-in-law, Carol Thumm of Cambridge Springs, PA; a brother-in-law, Powell Smith of Edinboro, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 1:00 PM at First United Presbyterian Church, 4281 Rt. 6N, Edinboro, PA. The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is entrusted with arrangements. Friends are invited to join the family afterwards for a lunch buffet at the Venango Valley Inn, 21217 Church St, Venango, PA.
