Betty A. Rooney, 88, of McKean, PA, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
She was born on May 7, 1938, in Erie, PA, the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Harvey. She was a graduate of McKean High School.
She married Alan Rooney in 1959, and together they shared a lifetime of devotion. She and Alan custom-designed their dream house, which was their home for more than 60 years. She was fastidious and persistent in maintaining and continually improving the homestead that was their pride and joy.
Betty was a proud and devoted mother to Cindi and Chris. She guided her family with wisdom and love, leaving a lasting legacy of family values.
Throughout her life, she cared for sick and aging family, friends and neighbors. A dedicated and active member of her community, she gave much of her time to service, fellowship and her faith. She was deeply involved in the St. Francis Xavier Church community as a member of the Rosary Society and Sunshine Circle. For decades, she provided food and worked with the kitchen staff to prepare funeral meals.
Her commitment to veterans and her community was reflected in her membership in the Auxiliary of McKean/Edinboro VFW Post 740, her role as a charter member of the McKean Lioness Club, her volunteer work for Julia House and her many years of service with the Erie City Mission.
After raising her family, she and Alan enjoyed traveling across the United States with Just Friends Tours.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Alan; three brothers, John, Bill and Tom Harvey; and a sister, Bert Mancuso. Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia (William) Schell and Christine Rooney, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone who cared for her with such kindness and compassion, including the staff of Manchester Commons Personal Care and UPMC Family Hospice.
Friends may call at St. Francis Xavier Church, 8880 Main St., McKean, PA, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is entrusted with arrangements.
