Barbara Ann Schmitt, 85, of Edinboro, passed away peacefully in her home on January 9, 2021.
Beloved wife of the late Kenneth C. Schmitt; loving mother of Kathy (Jerry) Stubenhofer, Joe (Kathy) Schmitt, Ginny (Roy) Shinn, Dr. Jim Schmitt, Sue (Mark) Guillen, Mary Ann (Ed) Ignaczak; sister of John Gardner; and grandmother to 21 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard J. and Mary Ann Gardner, and two sisters, Betsy Marshall and Judy Dickson.
Barb was born April 14, 1935 in Erie. She graduated from Villa Maria grade school, high school and college. She enjoyed her years at Villa, where she made many lifelong friends. She was an excellent student and was forever grateful for her Catholic education.
Barbie married her loving husband, Ken, on June 16, 1956 at St. Peter's Cathedral. They moved to Edinboro in 1963, where together they raised a family and Barb helped in the family dental practice as the office manager. Besides her family, Barbara cherished Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, where she was a volunteer bookkeeper for many years. She was active in several ministries, including Reader and Eucharistic Ministry. She loved attending daily Mass and spending time in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend viewing on Friday, January 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon, celebrated by Fr. Dan Hoffman. All CDC guidelines requiring face masks and social distancing will be in place.
