Afton Kohut, Jr.

October 29, 1917 — July 23, 2012

Afton Kohut, Jr., 94, of Albion, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012 at Manchester Presbyterian Lodge.  He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 29, 1917.  Son of the late Afton Kohut, Sr. and Pearl Naglowski Kohut.
Afton married Norma Fornash, on July 23, 1955.  They celebrated their 57th anniversary together when Afton joined Norma Monday afternoon.
Afton was a talented farmer and gardener.  He was an avid baseball fan and even played minor league baseball in the Detroit Tigers Organization.  Afton had a great sense of humor and always had a smile that could light up a room.  He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Crossingville, where he enjoyed helping in the kitchen and doing general maintenance around the church.
Survivors include his son Dr. Paul Kohut and his wife Dawn of McKean; his daughter Pearl Schmidt and her husband William of Albion; and four grandchildren, Michael Schmidt and his fiancée Melanie Krook; Lisa Schmidt and Amanda and Brennan Cook.
Afton's family would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to the Manchester Presbyterian Lodge Staff for their compassionate care.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m..  A Panihida (memorial service) will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon before viewing hours.  The funeral service will be held Friday at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 25636 N. Moisertown Road, Edinboro, PA, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Dennis Hendershot officiating.
Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505, Second Harvest Food Bank, 1507 Grimm Drive, Erie, PA 16501, or Saints Peter & Paul Church Camp, 25636 North Mosiertown Road, Edinboro, PA 16412 .
