James H. Giles, 73 of Waterford, died Friday, November 4, 2022. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 12, 1949, the son of the late Dr. J. Howard and Ruth Giles.
James graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School and earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Mercyhurst College. He was an LPN at Pleasant Ridge Manor where he retired from in 2006. He had also worked at National Forge in Erie for many years.
He served in the Navy as a Corpsman attached to a Marine Corp Unit during Vietnam. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his exemplary service. He was a lifetime member of Edinboro/McKean VFW Post #740.
James loved to hunt, ride his motorcycle and spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed taking his children to Panama Rocks each summer. He especially loved to volunteer around the area as Santa and to help feed the homeless with his church, New Beginnings Full Gospel Church in Fairview, where he was a member.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Holly Muffie, and a brother, Brian Giles.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Sally Giles; a daughter, Shonna (Mike) Brown of Millcreek; two sons, Darby (Kelly) Giles of Oregon and Neil (Amanda) Lewis of Cranesville; a sister, Mary Ann (John) Strawbridge of Maryland; 6 grandchildren, Mikel, Nick and Shane Giles, Elexis Henry, and Tristyn and Kenzy Lewis; and a great grandchild, Everly Giles.
Friends may call at Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at New Beginnings Full Gospel Church, 7195 W. Ridge Rd, Fairview, PA 16415 at 11:00 a.m.
Burial of ashes with military honors will follow at Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to K-9's for Warriors (K9sforwarriors.org) or PTSD Foundation of America (ptsdusa.org). To send condolences please visit www.gluntfuneralhome.com.
